TESTIMONIAL I met Leslie through scheduled face-time calls after my mom's care facility suspended visitation due to Covid. Leaving a loved, with dementia and unmet medical needs, was devastating for our family. Leslie immediately familiarized herself with mom's history, interests and abilities and applied this knowledge when conversing or doing activities, helping mom stay calm and engaged when there was no family presence. Whether conversing, helping mom read, doing her nails, reading her jokes, delivering essentials or fulfilling some other wish, Leslie always adapted her approach to meet mom's level of functioning and comfort which lessened her anxiety and confusion.

As mom's dementia progressed she lost her ability to reliably communicate. Without family presence it became increasingly difficult to assess her unmet needs. This is where Leslie became my godsend. I witnessed her unique ability to find ways to successfully communicate with the residents who have dementia (verbal and non-verbal), including mom. With this, she was able to assess and relay mom's needs to me so that I could continue to advocate on mom's behalf.

The bond and genuine affection that mom developed towards Leslie was evident. She quickly became an extension to our family, providing mom with care and comfort in our absence, assuring family of her well being or alerting family of any unmet needs. She was always understanding and supportive of our situation and decisions, maintaining respect and confidentiality at all times. She was both professional and personal in her approach and I would sincerely recommend her as a companion to anyone who needs assistance for their loved one's.

TESTIMONIAL " Leslie was instrumental in spending time with my Mom when I could not be there! My Mom developed a true connection with her as I did as the daughter... and for that I will be eternally grateful." - Client - Family Member TESTIMONIAL " Leslie has been providing weekly visits and recreation since July 2022 for our Mom, Joan, who resides in the memory unit at MacTaggart Retirement Residence. Mom looks forward to her visits with Leslie, who provides emotional and social support for her one on one. Leslie has accompanied Mom to the in-house socials, and she is quite musical so encourages Mom to sing along and enjoy the entertainment. She has also painted her nails and helped her with personal grooming. During the milder weather, Leslie took my Mom for outdoor walks in her wheelchair to Waves coffee shop as well as for ice cream. She brought supplies and helped Mom make a Halloween themed night light craft in October and Mom was so pleased to show me her work of art. Leslie is very friendly and congenial and encourages Mom to talk about her earlier life, family and interests. I would highly recommend Leslie as a companion for your loved one. " - Client - Family Member Leslie has been companion to our dear Mom, Rose for over a year. We couldn’t have imagined the uplifting presence she would be in all our lives when we first met her. Mom is so happy when Leslie visits. Time with Leslie means there will be conversation about Mom’s life and her interests. It means creating wreaths and bouquets, even decorating hats. There may be a serious discussion of recipes in magazines as Mom loves to bake. They bake cookies to share with the other residents nearly every week. Leslie knows know Mom well and provides stimulation and activities that she enjoys and are appropriate for her. Mom is very sociable, so Leslie gathers other residents for sing-alongs and visits. However, she also knows when Mom would rather have a quiet day perhaps just colouring or visiting together. No matter what, there is always lots of laughter. Leslie also has extensive experience interacting with healthcare providers for the elderly. She has helped us understand how to effectively advocate for Mom’s well-being both in hospital and at her residence. She has alerted us to emerging medical issues so that we can assure Mom receives the care she needs. Singing lifts Mom’s spirits, so, along with Leslie, we sang our way through Mom’s three-week hospital stay for a pelvic fracture. My sister is Mom’s only local caregiver, so having Leslie as companion to Mom provides much needed caregiver respite and support. It’s not hard to see how highly we regard Leslie. She brings happiness and joy to Mom and lightens our hearts. She is devoted to the well-being of her clients and their families. We happily recommend her as a companion for the elder in your life.
